Together, we can do more

Surf Life Saving clubs are an active, integral part of the Australian community and are always on the look out for opportunities to work with others in the community (groups, businesses, local councils – even individuals with great ideas) who share our commitment to protecting and nurturing our unique, fragile coastal environment.

Community partnerships provide the ideal vehicle for sharing information widely and fostering awareness of the relationship between individual actions and the health of the environment.

Reports of community partnerships are regularly featured in the Ecosurf newsroom.

Put your thinking hats on and imagine who you might work with in your local community – here are just two examples of clubs building relationships with others in their area for the benefit of the environment.

Coastcare
www.coastcare.com.au
Coastcare and landcare groups tackle problems like dune erosion, loss of native plants and animals, storm water pollution, weeds and control of human access to sensitive areas. There are currently 60,000 active Coastcare volunteers in 2,000 Coastcare groups around the country. South Port surf Life Saving Club (SA) hosted an Ecosurf Breakfast on Saturday 29 November 2008 during Coastcare Week that brought together their members,  local Coastcare members and other environmental groups with the object of encouraging partnerships between these groups. Eco Divers
http://www.ecodivers.org.au
A small volunteer-based marine conservation group based on Sydney's Northern Beaches who conduct numerous activities to ensure the preservation, protection and promotion of the local underwater environment. The Ecodivers worked with North Steyne Surf Life Saving Club (NSW), sharing information about marine creatures with club members. Club members have also been able to see them remove creatures from the shark nets and to talk about the impact of the nets on underwater life.
